The map on the left is the Roman Empire at the height of it's power around 116 A.D. The map below is the map of the European Union (EU, those countries are in dark blue), potential EU members (both shades of light blue), and the European Neighborhood Policy countries (the countries in the darker green). As you can see, once the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) is put into place on January 1, 2007, the EU will look pretty much exactly like the Roman Empire at the height of it's power.

While there are now 25 countries in the E.U. and there will be more added later, the EU has 10 core treaty members. These 10 members are known as the WEU or the Western European Union. The WEU are the countries that actually signed treaties between each other to join. The WEU is also considered the military wing of the EU since the likes of Britain and France are in the WEU.

After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
Daniel 7:7-8

The verses above speak of the 4th great empire of the earth that is now forming in Europe. The "little horn" is the antichrist. Before the antichrist is revealed 3 of the 10 countries in the WEU will be plucked. It's hard to say which three countries will be plucked, but due to some recent stories, it may be easy to figure out.

The antichrist will sign and enforce a covenant (or binding agreement) with many nations. As of right now things in regard to this covenant are getting pretty interesting.
